Residence in Thailand: The Long-Term Resident Visa
You want a long visa for Thailand, and you want to know which route fits. Thailand has one investment route, the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa for Wealthy Global Citizens. It asks for USD 500,000 invested in Thailand and total assets of at least USD 1 million.
Why Thailand's rules need a date on them
Thailand updated the Wealthy Global Citizen criteria in 2025, and older guides still show an income test. We read each official page and date it, so you can see how current a figure is.

What you need
You need an investment already made, total assets, health cover and a plan to keep all of it for the length of the visa.
Full details, with the official source for each rule, are on the Thailand Long-Term Resident Visa page.
What it costs, and what waiting costs
The investment is the larger cost, and the visa fee sits on top. Set both against the cost of a wrong start: an investment that does not qualify and a visa that cannot be granted.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Processing fee, 10-year multiple-entry visa | 50,000 baht per person, when collected in Thailand |
| Board of Investment endorsement | No fee when you apply directly |
| Work permit maintenance fee (general LTR privilege) | 3,000 baht a year |
