What is the Yukon Business Nominee Program?
The Yukon Business Nominee Program (YBNP) is a provincial nominee program run by the Government of Yukon. It lets foreign business owners and entrepreneurs immigrate to Canada by starting or buying a business in Yukon.
Unlike programs that just look at your net worth, the YBNP scores you on a point grid. Education, business experience, language, planned investment amount, age, prior visits to Yukon, and where you plan to open your business all factor in. You need a minimum of 65 points to qualify for the candidate pool.
If you are accepted, you receive a 2-year federal work permit to establish your business in Yukon. After meeting the performance requirements during that period, the Yukon government supports your application for Canadian permanent residency.
The Yukon Business Nominee Program (YBNP) is a Canadian provincial nominee program for foreign entrepreneurs. Applicants must score at least 65 points on the program’s assessment grid, hold a minimum net worth of CAD $500,000, have at least CAD $300,000 in liquid assets, and commit to investing a minimum of CAD $300,000 in capital in a Yukon business within the first two years. The program leads to a 2-year work permit and, ultimately, Canadian permanent residency.

How the YBNP works: your step-by-step path
Step 1 — Assess your eligibility and score
Before anything else, confirm you meet the personal and business requirements and score at least 65 points on the assessment grid. Our team reviews your full profile at this stage to identify gaps and opportunities. This is where we save clients the most time.
Step 2 — Prepare and submit your application
Complete the YBNP application and submit it to the Government of Yukon, either in person at 303 Alexander Street, 1st floor in Whitehorse, or by mail. We help you compile and review every document before submission.
Step 3 — Wait for the initial decision (12–14 weeks)
The Government of Yukon will contact you within 12 to 14 weeks with the outcome of your application. Processing times can increase depending on application volumes.
Step 4 — Enter the candidate pool (up to 6 months)
Applications that meet the requirements and score 65+ points enter a candidate pool for up to 6 months. The Yukon government selects from this pool — meeting the minimum does not guarantee an invitation.
Step 5 — Submit detailed documents and your business plan
Selected candidates are invited to submit verification documents and a full business plan. A well-prepared business plan is one of the biggest differentiators at this stage. We work with you to develop one that answers the government’s questions before they ask them.
Step 6 — Exploratory trip and in-person interview in Yukon
If you pass the document review, you are invited for an exploratory trip and a face-to-face interview in Yukon. We prepare you for this interview specifically.
Step 7 — Receive a 2-year federal work permit
If the Yukon government approves your application after the interview, they support your 2-year federal work permit application. This is the period where you establish yourself, your family, and your business in Yukon.
Step 8 — Apply for Canadian permanent residency
At the end of the 2-year work permit period, the Yukon government supports your permanent residency application to the federal government, provided you have met the program’s performance requirements.
