What happened to the SINP Entrepreneur categories?
On March 27, 2025, Saskatchewan announced that the Entrepreneur, International Graduate Entrepreneur and Farm Owner/Operator categories would be permanently closed, effective immediately. It accepts no new applications, expressions of interest or invitations to apply.
The province said Ottawa cut its nomination allocation by 50 per cent to 3,625 nominations and required 75 per cent of nominees to already live in Canada as temporary residents. Saskatchewan now prioritizes health care, agriculture and the skilled trades.
What about applications already filed?
Saskatchewan says all existing applications in its system will continue to be processed to completion. If you have a file, ask the SINP or your representative about its status. Nobody can start a new Saskatchewan entrepreneur application.
Why look beyond Saskatchewan
- Open business streams exist: nine provinces and territories publish rules for entrepreneurs
- Prairie neighbours: Alberta and Manitoba both run farm and rural business routes
- Lower entry outside big cities: Nova Scotia and the Northwest Territories start at $100,000 invested outside their main cities
Who should read this?
An honest check before you plan around Saskatchewan.
You are affected if
- You planned to start or buy a Saskatchewan business and earn a nomination
- You planned to farm there through the Farm Owner/Operator category
- You are a Saskatchewan graduate who planned to use the Graduate Entrepreneur category
A different route may fit if
- You have a Saskatchewan job offer in health care, agriculture or the skilled trades
- You already live in Canada on a valid temporary visa
- You want to work in Canada first and apply through Express Entry
A job-based route may fit better. See the skilled-worker PNP or Express Entry.

Saskatchewan entrepreneur immigration FAQs
Is the SINP Entrepreneur category still open?
No. Saskatchewan permanently closed the Entrepreneur, International Graduate Entrepreneur and Farm Owner/Operator categories on March 27, 2025. It accepts no new applications, expressions of interest or invitations to apply.
Why did Saskatchewan close it?
Saskatchewan said the federal government cut its nomination allocation by 50 per cent, leaving 3,625 nominations, and required 75 per cent of nominees to already live in Canada. It chose to focus on health care, agriculture and the skilled trades.
What happens to applications filed before the closure?
Saskatchewan says existing applications continue to be processed to completion. Ask the SINP or your representative about the status of your file.
Can I still farm in Saskatchewan through immigration?
No. The Farm Owner/Operator category is permanently closed too. Alberta and Manitoba still run farm routes, and we can compare them for you.
Which provinces still take entrepreneurs?
British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Yukon and the Northwest Territories publish business streams. Each has its own money, language and business rules, and PEI is rarely inviting business candidates right now.
Can I get a Saskatchewan nomination another way?
Yes, if you have a Saskatchewan job offer. Overseas approvals are prioritized for health care, agriculture and the skilled trades, and other occupations are limited to candidates already in Canada on a valid temporary visa.
Is there a federal business immigration program?
No federal business program is open right now. The Start-Up Visa program is closed to new applications, which is why the provincial streams matter.
