Calculate your Super Visa income
Count your family, enter your income and see if you meet the test. The tool does not store your numbers.
What does the Super Visa income calculator do?
It adds up your family size, finds the matching minimum on IRCC’s table and checks your income against Option 1 and Option 2. It also shows how much you are short, if you are. Use it before you pay for a medical exam or insurance.
Which tax years count?
Under Option 1, income in either of the 2 tax years before you apply can meet the minimum. Under Option 2, the last tax year must reach 75% of the minimum, and the applicant’s own income covers the rest.
What your result tells you
- Met under Option 1: your notice of assessment is the main proof
- Met under Option 2: add proof that the applicant’s income continues in Canada
- Close: the tool shows the exact dollar gap
- Below 75%: a co-signer or a later tax year may fix it

What you need before you start
Have these ready. Rules come from IRCC, and your documents must back every number.
Notices of assessment
Your CRA notice of assessment for the last two tax years. IRCC lists it as the preferred proof of income.
Family count
The applicants, you, your spouse or partner, dependent children, earlier Super Visa holders and anyone you still support under an undertaking.
Co-signer details
The income of your spouse or common-law partner, if they co-sign. Their income counts under both options.
Applicant income
Your parent or grandparent’s yearly income, in the currency it is earned. Only Option 2 uses it, with proof it continues.
Other proof
If you have no notice of assessment, IRCC accepts other proof such as a T4 or T1, pay stubs or an employer letter.

How the minimum income works
Family size
Your minimum depends on how many people you count. A bigger family means a higher minimum, and earlier undertakings count too.
The table runs from $30,526 for 1 person to $80,784 for 7. IRCC updated it on 29 July 2025.
Option 1
Your income, with any co-signer, meets the minimum in either of the 2 tax years before you apply. Send the CRA notice of assessment.
Option 2
Your last tax year income is at least 75% of the minimum. The applicant’s income covers the rest, and the total must reach the minimum.
Co-signer
A co-signer’s income counts toward the minimum under both options. A spouse or common-law partner can co-sign.
More than 7 people
Add $8,224 for each person beyond 7. A family of 8 needs $89,008.
Where to go next
Use your result to pick your next step.
Have these ready for your Super Visa application
The calculator checks income only. Your application needs more than that.
Letter of invitation
You sign a letter inviting your parent or grandparent. Your spouse or common-law partner can co-sign it.
Proof of relationship
Birth certificates or other papers that show you are the child or grandchild of the applicant.
Income proof
Notices of assessment, plus any co-signer and applicant papers your option needs.
Medical exam and insurance
A medical exam with a panel physician and Canadian health insurance. Check the Super Visa guide for the current rules.
Co-signer papers
Proof of your co-signer’s status and income, if you use one.

Five mistakes that skew your Super Visa result
A wrong input gives a wrong answer. Watch for these.
Leaving out a family member
IRCC counts earlier Super Visa holders and anyone you still support under an undertaking. Missing one lowers your minimum on paper.
Using the wrong tax year
Option 1 uses either of the 2 tax years before you apply. Option 2 uses the last tax year only.
Forgetting the co-signer
A co-signer’s income counts under both options. Leaving it out can make you look short.
Counting applicant income too early
The applicant’s income helps only under Option 2, after you reach 75% of the minimum yourself.
Thinking income is enough
The Super Visa also needs a medical exam, insurance and an admissible applicant.

Super Visa income calculator FAQs
How much income do I need for a Super Visa?
It depends on your family size. IRCC’s table runs from $30,526 for a family of 1 to $80,784 for a family of 7, plus $8,224 for each extra person. A family of 2 needs $38,002.
How does IRCC count my family size?
You count the Super Visa applicants, yourself, your spouse or common-law partner, and your dependent children. You also count earlier Super Visa holders and anyone you still support under an undertaking. Dependent children count whatever the custody arrangement.
Which tax years does IRCC check?
Under Option 1, your income can meet the minimum in either of the 2 tax years before you apply. Under Option 2, the last tax year must be at least 75% of the minimum. The CRA notice of assessment is the preferred proof.
What is Option 2 and who should use it?
Option 2 fits hosts who reach 75% of the minimum in the last tax year but not the full amount. The parent or grandparent adds their own income to cover the rest. The total must meet or exceed the minimum.
Can my spouse co-sign and add their income?
Yes. A spouse or common-law partner can co-sign, and the co-signer’s income counts toward the minimum under both options. Enter the combined income in the calculator.
What documents prove my income?
IRCC prefers the CRA notice of assessment. It also accepts a T4 or T1, 12 months of pay stubs, an employer letter, bank statements, pension statements or rental contracts. See our Super Visa guide for the full list.
Does my parent’s income count?
Only under Option 2. You must show proof that the applicant’s income continues while in Canada. Read our Super Visa income changes post for what changed in 2026.
What if I do not meet the income test?
Check whether a co-signer, a later tax year or Option 2 closes the gap. If none do, wait for a stronger notice of assessment before you apply. We can review your numbers and your options.
Does the calculator guarantee approval?
No. It checks the income rule only, and IRCC decides every application. The Super Visa also needs a medical exam, health insurance and an admissible applicant.
Is the Parents and Grandparents Program income test the same?
No. That program has its own income test and is paused for new applications. Read our parents and grandparents sponsorship page for the 2025 intake figures.
