Why do students choose the UAE?
Students choose the UAE because your university can arrange your student visa, your family can join you if you have suitable housing, and outstanding students can qualify for a 10-year Golden Visa (ICP and u.ae, October 2026).
Three reasons come up most often:
- The university helps with your visa: the government says universities facilitate the student visa process.
- Family can stay: family members of foreign students may stay in the UAE as long as they can afford suitable housing.
- A route for top students: ICP’s Golden Residency Guide lists 10 years for top secondary school students and for top graduates of accredited UAE universities, with set marks.
Can I get admitted? What do I need for each study level?
To be admitted, you need the right education for the level, the language level the university asks for, and a place at an accredited institution. Each university sets its own entry rules, so the program page has the last word. Use the table as a starting point.
| Study level | Education usually needed | Language | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foundation or pathway | Secondary school | Set by the university | A foundation course can lead to a bachelor program when your marks or language score are just short. |
| Bachelor | Finished secondary school with good results | Set by the university | You apply directly to the university. It sets the entry marks. |
| Master | A bachelor degree | Set by the program | You apply directly to the university. |
| Doctorate | A master degree | Set by the university | Check the university for its research requirements. |
The examples come from UAE government pages and university admission pages, read in October 2026. Your university sets the final requirement.

What language level do I need to study in the UAE?
Each UAE university sets its own language level for each program. The ICP student visa service lists no language test, so your university’s rule is the one that counts.
| Where language matters | What it means |
|---|---|
| The university | Sets its own language level and language of teaching for each program. |
| The visa application | The ICP student visa service lists no language test. |
| Your acceptance letter | Must confirm that you are accepted, your program and its duration. |
Check each university’s rule before you book a test, because accepted tests and scores differ.
How much money do I need to show?
ICP’s entry permit service for universities lists no minimum bank balance. You pay your university’s tuition and fees, plus the ICP fees: AED 100 for the application, AED 100 for issuing the entry permit and AED 100 for the smart service (ICP, October 2026). Universities often add residence visa, insurance and deposit costs, so ask yours for the full amount.
| What you must cover | Amount (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Tuition and fees | Set by each university |
| ICP application fee | AED 100 |
| ICP entry permit issuance fee | AED 100 |
| ICP smart service fee | AED 100 |
| Minimum bank balance | ICP lists none for the university entry permit |
| Medical insurance | Medical insurance or a health card is among the residence visa documents (u.ae) |
| Medical fitness test | For applicants aged 18 and over |
| Emirates ID | Required for residents, and it expires with your visa |
| Passport | Valid for at least 6 months |
| Entry permit | You must enter within 60 days of the permit being issued |
| Overstay fine | AED 50 for each day |
What to ask your university: the total first-year cost, including tuition, housing, health insurance, the medical test and the Emirates ID. Packages differ from one university to the next.
If you overstay: a residence visa overstay costs AED 50 for each day (u.ae, October 2026).
Fees: Tuition varies a lot by university and program. We show your exact first-year fee when we match you.
Can I work while I study and after I graduate?
To work legally you need a valid residence visa and a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) (Visit Dubai and u.ae, October 2026). Your employer applies for the permit, and a part-time permit lets you work for more than one employer with MoHRE approval. MoHRE sets the conditions, so check them before you accept a job. Do not plan to pay your living costs from work.
After you graduate, outstanding students can apply for a Golden Visa. ICP lists 10 years for top secondary school students, and for top bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral graduates of accredited UAE universities. A graduate of a UAE university needs a degree from a university licensed by the Ministry of Education and classed Category A or B, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 (Category A) or 3.8 (Category B), and an application within two years of graduating. A graduate of an international university needs a degree from a university in the world top 100 on the ranking the Ministry recognises, a bachelor’s GPA of at least 3.5, and an application within two years. Secondary school students need at least 95% in Grade 12 at a licensed UAE school. The UAE Government portal still shows 5 years for high school students, so confirm the term with ICP when you apply.
Other graduates usually move to a work visa sponsored by an employer.
When can I start studying in the UAE?
Start dates, deadlines and admission steps are set by each university, so check yours first. You apply to the university, get your acceptance letter, and then the visa is arranged through the university or your sponsor (ICP and u.ae, October 2026).
| Step | What to know |
|---|---|
| 1. Choose an accredited university | Choose an accredited university or college. The UAE Government says student visas are sponsored by an accredited university or college. |
| 2. Apply to the university | Most universities take applications directly. Ask for its entry requirements and dates. |
| 3. Get your acceptance letter | It must confirm your acceptance, your program and its duration. |
| 4. The visa is applied for | Your university facilitates it, and it goes through ICP or your emirate’s immigration authority. |
| 5. Arrive and finish the steps | Enter within the 60-day validity of your entry permit, then complete the medical test, Emirates ID and insurance so your residence is issued. |
Dates change every year, so check your institution’s current dates before you plan.
How does admission work with AIA?
We find courses that fit your marks, language level and budget, apply for you, and follow each application until you have an offer. There is no fee for this. You only pay what the institution charges, such as an application fee or a tuition deposit.
Step 1: Check your admission chances
Answer seven short steps. You see where you are strong and what to fix first.
Step 2: Send your documents
If you look admissible, we ask for your passport, transcripts and language score through a private link, and send you a short agreement to sign.
Step 3: We apply for you
We submit your applications, follow each task and tell you when an offer arrives. A conditional offer is not final enrolment, so we show you what you still need to meet.

What about the UAE student visa?
A student can stay in the UAE under the sponsorship of an accredited university or college, or of a parent who is a UAE resident. AIA supports your admission. The visa is a separate application, and the UAE Government says universities facilitate the process. If you have a UAE-resident parent, sons can stay on their parent’s sponsorship up to age 25 (older with proof of study), and daughters until they marry.
ICP’s entry permit for study asks for a passport valid for at least 6 months, a personal photo and a letter from the university that confirms your acceptance, your program and its duration, and you must enter within 60 days of the permit being issued. For the residence visa, u.ae lists medical insurance or a health card, a medical fitness test for applicants aged 18 and over, and an Emirates ID. Read the official page: UAE Government, Residence visa for studying in the UAE.
