Canada Immigration for UAE Professionals: Your Skilled Worker Route

If you are a skilled professional living in the UAE, Express Entry is usually the first route to check. You need paid skilled work experience, CLB 7 in English or French, and an Educational Credential Assessment for foreign education. Can UAE professionals apply for Canadian permanent residence?
Yes. You can apply from the UAE, whatever your nationality, and you do not need to move to Canada first. The Federal Skilled Worker Program, which Express Entry uses for skilled professionals, sets these minimums.

- At least 1 year of paid skilled work in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 within the last 10 years (see our work experience guide)
- CLB 7 or higher in all four language abilities
- A completed education credential, with an Educational Credential Assessment if it was earned outside Canada
- At least 67 points on IRCC’s selection grid
- Proof of funds, unless you can legally work in Canada and hold a valid job offer
Which routes should skilled professionals in the UAE check?
Start with Express Entry, then check whether a category or a provincial nomination fits your job. IRCC invites some candidates by occupation category, and a provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points. Your occupation can matter as much as your score.

What documents do UAE professionals need?
Core documents are a valid passport, civil records, a UAE police certificate, an education assessment, language results, employer reference letters and proof of funds. Reference letters should show your job title, duties, hours, pay and dates.

How much does it cost?
Government fees for one adult on Express Entry total $1,590 CAD: a $990 processing fee plus the $600 right of permanent residence fee. A spouse adds the same two fees, and each dependent child adds $270. Tests, assessments, medicals and police certificates cost extra.

Can UAE professionals apply for Express Entry?
Yes. You can apply for Express Entry while you live in the UAE, and you do not need to move to Canada first.

Does my UAE work experience count?
Yes, if it is paid, in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3, and within the last 10 years. IRCC checks your duties against the NOC, not your job title.

What language score do I need?
Most skilled worker routes need CLB 7 in all four abilities, which is 6.0 in each IELTS General Training skill.
Higher scores earn far more CRS points. Language results expire after two years, so time your test. See our language test guide.
Do I need a Canadian job offer?
No. Express Entry does not require a job offer, and a job offer adds no CRS points since March 25, 2025.

Do I need an Educational Credential Assessment?
Yes, for education completed outside Canada. The ECA tells IRCC how your degree compares with a Canadian one.

How do I get a UAE police certificate?
Apply for a Police Clearance Certificate through your emirate’s police department, online or in person. IRCC accepts one clearance from any emirate.

How long does the process take?
IRCC’s service standard for Express Entry is about six months from a complete application. The wait for an invitation depends on your CRS score.

Do I need a consultant to apply?
No, you can apply on your own, but the system is detailed and small mistakes can lead to refusal.
