How does a Canada immigration consultant in the UK help you?
A licensed consultant checks your eligibility, chooses the right route and prepares a clean application. You can check any consultant on the public register of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) before you pay. Amir Ismail holds licence R412319.
Many delays and refusals start with avoidable errors: mismatched documents, unclear work history and unsupported funds. Our job is to catch those before IRCC does.
What happens if you wait to apply?
Your chances can shrink over time. Age points fall as you get older, language test results expire after two years, and program rules and draw categories change during the year. A clear plan now helps you act when the right round or window opens.
Why British professionals choose AIA
- Licensed and accountable: a CICC-regulated RCIC, not a local sub-agent
- Direct access: Amir Ismail and Rijah Amir work with you personally from Toronto
- Honest assessments: we tell you when a route does not fit, before you spend money
- End-to-end help: credential assessment, language plan, profile, forms and checks
- Family covered: your spouse and children are part of the plan
- A long track record: in the industry since 1991, with 25,000+ families served
Is Canada immigration from the UK right for you?
An honest answer before you spend money on tests and fees.
A good fit if you have
- A clear route that matches your life: skilled work, a spouse or parent in Canada, a study offer or a business plan
- Documents that match your story, such as work letters, degrees and civil records
- A language test result, or a plan to take the test your route needs
- Funds and records that support your application
- Time to follow a plan and meet every deadline
Consider another route if
- You expect a guaranteed approval, which nobody can promise
- You cannot document your work history, studies or relationship
- You plan to rely on a job offer for CRS points, since job offers no longer add points
- You want to skip required tests or checks
Check your score with our CRS calculator or see our Canada immigration routes to find the route that fits you.
Canada immigration from the UK in numbers

What British applicants need for a Canada application
Good files start with good documents. Every route needs the core set below, and your route adds extras.
Passport and identity
A valid passport and civil documents that show your name, birth and family details. Documents not in English or French need a certified translation.
Police certificates
The UK issues a police certificate through ACRO, the National Police Chiefs Council Criminal Records Office. You need one for permanent residence and citizenship, and you may need one from each country where you lived as an adult. See the table below.
Medical exam
An IRCC-approved panel physician performs your medical exam for permanent residence and for many temporary applications.
Biometrics
You give fingerprints and a photo at a visa application centre for most applications.
Language and education
Skilled routes need IELTS General Training, CELPIP, TEF or TCF results, which expire after two years, and an Educational Credential Assessment for foreign degrees.
Proof for your route
Spousal sponsorship needs relationship proof, study permits need a letter of acceptance and funds, visitor visas need ties and funds, and business routes need a plan and proof of net worth.
Not sure what applies to you?
Canada immigration routes for British applicants
Pick the route that matches your life today. Each card links to our full guide, and we compare routes with you in a strategy consultation.
Express Entry
Skilled workers build a profile, earn a CRS score and wait for an invitation to apply.
PNP for skilled workers
Provinces nominate workers they need. A nomination adds 600 CRS points or opens a separate route to PR.
PNP for entrepreneurs
Provincial entrepreneur streams are the main business route, since no federal business program is open.
Study in Canada
Study at a Canadian institution, earn a work permit and build Canadian experience toward PR.
Work permits
Work in Canada with an employer-backed permit. LMIA permits, LMIA-exempt permits and open permits under the International Mobility Program may fit.
Visit Canada
IRCC lists British citizens under the countries that need an eTA, not a visitor visa. Parents can look at the Super Visa.
Spousal sponsorship
A Canadian citizen or permanent resident can sponsor a spouse or partner living in the UK.
Permanent residents abroad
Already a PR but living outside Canada? Check how many days you must spend in Canada and what to do if you fall short.
Refused visa or permit
A refusal is not always final. See why files are refused, how to answer a procedural fairness letter and when to reapply.
Why applications from the UK stall, and how to avoid it
Most delays come from the file, not the person. Fix these four things before you apply, and use our guides if you already got a refusal or a letter.
Stepped-down records
If your ACRO certificate says No Live Trace, IRCC may ask for more information about a stepped-down record. Prepare dates, offences and sentences before you apply.
Proof of your work
Express Entry points rely on proof of your work. Ask each employer for a reference letter on letterhead with your job title, duties, hours, pay and dates. Skilled work outside Canada can count.
Document gaps and letters
A missing document can bring a procedural fairness letter. Learn how to answer one in our PFL guide, and why accuracy matters in our misrepresentation guide.
Unlicensed agents
Only licensed consultants and lawyers can represent you. Check any consultant on the public CICC register before you pay. See our regulated adviser guide.

Canada immigration from the UK FAQs
How do I choose the best Canada immigration consultant in the UK?
Choose a consultant with a valid CICC licence that you can confirm on the public register. Amir Ismail holds licence R412319 and Rijah Amir holds RCIC-IRB licence R731353. Both work with clients directly from Toronto. Be careful with anyone who guarantees approval.
Is Amir Ismail & Associates licensed to give Canada immigration advice?
Yes. Amir Ismail is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, licence R412319, regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. You can confirm his licence on the public register before you book.
Can I apply for Canada PR from the UK?
Yes. You can apply for permanent residence from the UK through programs such as Express Entry and the provincial nominee programs, which IRCC manages with the provinces. You do not need to be in Canada, but you must qualify and document your profile.
What IELTS score do I need for Canada PR?
Most skilled worker routes need at least CLB 7, which is an IELTS score of 6.0 in each skill. Higher scores earn far more CRS points, so most competitive profiles aim well above the minimum. We help you set a realistic target.
Do I need a job offer to get Canada PR from the UK?
No. Express Entry does not require a job offer, and since March 25, 2025 a job offer no longer adds CRS points. A provincial nomination can still add 600 points.
Are UK degrees accepted for Canadian immigration?
Yes, after an Educational Credential Assessment from a designated organization, such as WES. The assessment tells IRCC how your degree compares with a Canadian one. We help you choose the right organization.
Can my spouse and children apply with me?
Yes. Your spouse or partner and dependent children can be included in your application, and your spouse can add points if they qualify. Adding family members adds IRCC fees, and each person completes medical and police checks.
How long does Canada PR take from the UK?
Your timeline has three parts: preparing tests and documents, waiting for an invitation, and IRCC processing. IRCC’s service standard for Express Entry is about six months after a complete application. The wait for an invitation depends on your score.
How do I start?
Book a Strategy Consultation with Amir. In 30 minutes you learn which route fits, what to fix first and what to budget. You leave with a clear plan in writing.
Do British citizens need a visa to visit Canada?
No. IRCC lists British citizens under the countries that need an eTA instead of a visa. Apply for an eTA online before you fly.
Is there a trade agreement work permit for UK citizens?
IRCC lists the Canada-UK Trade Continuity Agreement and the GATS for UK citizens. See our UK trade agreement guide.
Is there a youth route for British citizens?
Yes. Eligible young UK citizens can look at International Experience Canada for working holiday and youth placements. See our IEC guide.
How long do I have to submit police certificates for Express Entry?
Express Entry candidates have 60 days to submit their police certificates. Start the process as soon as you are in the pool so a delay does not cost you your invitation.
Do my documents need translation?
Only if they are not in English or French. IRCC asks for the original document and a translation from a certified translator.
Who will handle my file if I live in the UK?
Amir Ismail and Rijah Amir work with every client directly from our Toronto head office, by Zoom or phone, so you can book from anywhere in the UK.
I am a permanent resident living in the UK. Can I lose my PR status?
Possibly. Permanent residents must be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days in every five-year period. If you are behind, speak to a licensed consultant before you travel or renew your PR card. Read our residency obligation guide.
My Canada visa or permit was refused. What can I do?
A refusal is not always the end. Read the refusal reasons, check whether you can reapply with stronger documents and respond quickly to any procedural fairness letter. See our refusals and inadmissibility guide.
