The French Express Entry draw on October 16, 2026 invited 5,000 candidates at a cut-off of 435. That is draw 450 in the official rounds data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is the highest French cut-off of 2026, and it came after 58 days with no French round.

We took every figure from IRCC’s Express Entry rounds data on October 17, 2026, and matched it against our 2026 Express Entry draw tracker. For all three rounds from October 13 to 16 in one place, see our Express Entry draws October 2026 roundup. Eligibility rules come from IRCC’s category-based selection page, modified October 16, 2026.

What happened in the French Express Entry draw October 16, 2026?

IRCC invited 5,000 French-speaking candidates in draw 450 on October 16, 2026. The lowest Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score invited was 435. Candidates who scored exactly 435 got in only if they entered the pool before the tie-breaking time. That time was October 6, 2026 at 21:31:22 UTC.

  • Draw number: 450
  • Category: French-language proficiency (2026, version 2)
  • Invitations: 5,000
  • CRS cut-off: 435
  • Tie-breaking rule: October 6, 2026 at 21:31:22 UTC

How does 435 compare with other French draws in 2026?

This round had the highest cut-off of the 11 French rounds held in 2026. The old high was 420 on July 9. Before October 16, the ten French rounds averaged 401. So 435 is 15 points above the previous high and 34 points above the average for the year.

Our math: 400 + 397 + 393 + 419 + 400 + 409 + 420 + 399 + 391 + 382 = 4,010. Divide by 10 and the average is 401. The lowest French cut-off this year was 382, on August 19.

The 11 French rounds have now issued 55,500 invitations in 2026. That is 38.7% of the 143,467 Express Entry invitations so far this year. Only the Canadian Experience Class, at 57,750, has issued more.

Why did the French cut-off rise in the October 16 draw?

IRCC does not explain why a cut-off moves, so I cannot confirm the cause. What the data does show is the timing. The last French round was on August 19, which left a 58-day gap. That is the longest gap between French rounds in 2026. The next longest was 42 days, from May 28 to July 9.

A long pause can let higher-scoring French speakers pile up in the pool. That would push a 5,000-person round to a higher score. It fits the numbers, but it is a reading of the data, not something IRCC has said.

It also cuts against what we saw in the spring. In May we wrote that French draws were thinning, with cut-offs drifting down. This round is the clearest break from that pattern so far.

Who is eligible for a French Express Entry draw?

You need French test results with a score of at least 7 in all four abilities on the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC). Those are reading, writing, listening and speaking. You must also qualify for one of the three Express Entry programs and meet the rules in the instructions for that round.

One weak ability is enough to keep you out. A 6 in writing with 9s everywhere else does not qualify. If you are close, retesting to lift your lowest score is often the cheapest move you can make.

Being eligible does not mean being invited. Our guide to Express Entry category draw chances explains why. Our French-language proficiency Express Entry service can check where your profile stands.

What should French speakers do before November 3, 2026?

Keep your profile ready, because the scoring is about to change. IRCC announced on October 16, 2026 that new CRS points for high-wage jobs start on November 3. It will recalculate every score in the pool, and rounds will pause for up to two weeks while it does. Any round before then uses today’s rules.

  1. Check your NCLC scores: confirm all four are 7 or higher and that your test is still valid.
  2. Update job offer details: IRCC says job offer holders must add the required details before November 3 to get the new points.
  3. Recheck your score: use our CRS calculator to see where you stand today.

IRCC does not publish a draw schedule, so I cannot tell you when the next French round will be. Official rules are on the IRCC website.
