The **Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP)** draw of October 9, 2026 issued 131 invitations to apply. Of those, 130 went to the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program and just 1 to the Atlantic Immigration Program, according to the province’s invitations page updated the same day. It is the largest round since August 26.

The headline number is not the real story. Read across the province’s own table and the Atlantic Immigration Program has almost stopped inviting anyone at all.

What happened in the Newfoundland and Labrador PNP draw on October 9?

On October 9, 2026, the Newfoundland and Labrador Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism issued 131 invitations to apply across two pathways:

  • Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP): 130 invitations

  • Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): 1 invitation

The province does not publish a minimum cut-off score. Selections are made using internal prioritization criteria based on targeted occupations, valid in-province job offers, and demonstrated intent to settle locally.

If you are invited, you have 30 days to send a complete application. The province says this is a temporary cut to 30 days as the year ends, to keep intake and processing within the current year.

Has the Atlantic Immigration Program stopped inviting candidates?

Close to it. The last five rounds, from September 4 to October 9, 2026, issued 367 invitations, and only 2 went to the AIP. In March to June 2026 the province ran 7 rounds that sent 241 of 1,487 invitations to the AIP. That is about 16% then, against under 1% now.

The province has not said why. We will not guess at the reason, but the pattern is plain in its own numbers.

If your plan depends on an AIP endorsement in Newfoundland and Labrador, treat it as uncertain for the rest of 2026. A NLPNP route, if you qualify, is where the invitations are going.

How many invitations has Newfoundland and Labrador issued in 2026?

The province has run 17 rounds in 2026 and issued 2,826 invitations: 2,430 to the NLPNP and 396 to the AIP. We added the rows from the official table ourselves. By October 9, 2025 the province had issued 2,946 invitations in 11 rounds, so 2026 is running slightly behind, spread over more and smaller rounds.

The biggest rounds this year were March 6 and July 28, with 445 invitations each. The smallest was September 10, with 36.

What should you do if you are in the Newfoundland and Labrador pool?

Keep your profile current and your documents ready. Expressions of interest expire after 12 months, and you must submit a new one if yours lapses. With a 30 day window after an invitation, a file that is not already built will not be finished in time. Language results, credentials and the job offer should all be in hand now.

If you are not invited, your profile stays in the pool until it is picked or expires. The province issues invitations in batches throughout the year, with no fixed calendar.
